Cap Mats from Porvair
Friction seals, or cap mats as they are sometimes called, form a physical barrier in the top of each well, thereby preventing leakage and evaporation. They are usually made from a soft pliable polymer such as EVA or silicone to allow them to be forced down into the well. They may be pierceable and some are pre-scored to ease the progress of the needle or tip through the cap mat and into the well. Some types act as septa and will re-seal after the tip is withdrawn.
