The influence of good quality plasma/vacuum interface design on the overall performance and sensitivity of an ICP-MS system is vitally important and high quality interface cones are key elements. ICP-MS interfaces comprise of a step-down vacuum stage located between a pair of conical metal plates, known as interface cones. Interface cones extract positively charged ions produced in the plasma into the vacuum system and the first and second cones are referred to as the sample cone and skimmer cone, respectively. Agilent's range of platinum and nickel interface cones provide the level of performance that our Single-Quadrupole and Triple-Quadrupole ICP-MS range demands.
Features
- Nickel sample/skimmer cones are suitable for most common applications and provide the most economical operation
- Nickel plated sampling cones are more resistant to chemical attack and are recommended for samples containing >0.5% HCl, or for routine operation with (U)HMI with maximum aerosol dilution ratio
- Platinum sample/skimmer cones are required for analysis of aggressive acids (especially HF) and when O2/Ar option gas is used for analysis of organic solvents
- Platinum skimmer with Copper base is recommended for the lowest LODs and for higher matrix samples
- Platinum skimmer with Nickel base is recommended for organics analysis
- Platinum sample cone with the 18 mm insert is recommended for high viscosity and high boiling point acids (e.g. H2SO4 or H3PO4)
