Gilson VERITY 1601

The VERITY 1601 ELS Detector from Gilson is a low-temperature evaporative light-scattering detector (ELSD) designed for use with liquid chromatography systems. As ELSD detection does not rely on UV absorbance, it enables the detection of compounds and impurities that lack chromophores, providing complementary information to UV-based detection methods. The detector is compatible with flow rates from approximately 100 μL/min to 5 mL/min, depending on mobile phase properties, and supports gradient separations through complete solvent evaporation. Its near-universal response allows detection of analytes that are less volatile than the mobile phase, including those eluting in solvents that strongly absorb UV radiation.

The VERITY 1601 ELSD comprises a nebulisation cell, a heated evaporation tube and a detection chamber. The system is operated via an integrated front panel and can be used in conjunction with TRILUTION LC and GLIDER software to support conditional logic fraction collection, enabling the identification and separation of impurities not observable by other detection techniques. This makes the detector suitable for applications requiring comprehensive compound monitoring during purification or analytical workflows.

Features

  • Evaporative Light-Scattering Detection (ELSD) – Near-universal detection for liquid chromatography, suitable for analytes less volatile than the mobile phase
  • Chromophore-Independent Detection – Enables monitoring of compounds with or without UV-active groups, complementing UV-Vis detection
  • Preparative-Optimised Nebuliser Design – Dedicated nebulisation chamber engineered for preparative HPLC and flash chromatography with highly concentrated eluents
  • Low-Temperature Evaporation – Supports detection of semi-volatile and thermally labile compounds while minimising thermal degradation
  • Gradient-Compatible Operation – Fully compatible with LC gradient solvent systems for optimised separations
  • Broad Solvent Compatibility – Operates with most LC solvents, irrespective of their UV absorption characteristics
  • Stable Baseline Performance – Provides a highly stable signal to support reliable fraction collection triggering
