Porvair eGecko2 Barcode Applicator

The Porvair eGecko2 Barcode Applicator is an automated system designed for the printing and application of barcodes to SBS format mciroplates and Petri dishes. The unit integrates a label printer and application mechanism within a single enclosure, requiring only an electrical supply for operation. A custom-designed print engine provides reliable label production, while interchangeable application heads allow labels to be applied to either flat or curved surfaces with minimal adjustment. The system incorporates an internal PC to control operation and manage label generation, enabling consistent and repeatable application in laboratory or production workflows.

Label design and positioning are managed through proprietary control software, which enables simultaneous control of printing and application processes. Data can be directed to the printer via integrated third-party software such as BarTender Label Software, allowing barcode data to be transferred directly from external sources including laboratory information management systems (LIMS). The system can also operate with alternative data inputs where required. An optional verification mode enables printed labels to be checked during the process, helping to identify unreadable barcodes before labelled items enter downstream laboratory processes.
